The best and most beautiful places in Phuket!

Phuket has many beautiful places… But Karon Beach and Yanui Beach are in my opinion among the most beautiful!

We are now a little more than a week in Phuket and have already seen and discovered a lot. In our everyday life it is often only small restaurants or cafes that we visit. Whereby we have also gained a very nice workplace on our balcony. But because we work during the week, bigger trips are only possible at the weekend or on days off. So we went on the last weekend with the scooter to explore the most beautiful places of Phuket.

Marc had told me about a lonely bay with a great view point where he had been with two of his buddies a little more than two years ago. He really wanted to show me this beach and the view point and so we got on our little scooter around noon with packed backpack and camera and started driving. The entrance and exit of the Oceana Resort in Phuket is already an adventure. It not only goes incredibly steep down the slope but also crooked. You have a little bit of a feeling that the scooter could tip over in front at any moment, but luckily this feeling is deceiving.

From Kamala via Patong to Karon…

Arrived safely on the road, we first had to look for a gas station. Already after a few meters we found one. But if you expect a normal gas station with pumps and everything, you are wrong. No, the gas station we found is a small wooden table at the roadside. Marked by a sign on which “GASOLINE” is written. The gasoline itself comes also not from the gas pump or a canister but is filled by a Thai from glass bottles directly into the tank of our scooter. With us fit scarcely 4 full bottles purely. We have paid 200 Baht (thus approx. 5€). Such gas stations can be found everywhere in Phuket, by the way.

With a full tank we went up the mountain from Kamala to Patong. This short route alone is simply beautiful. You drive completely along the coast, through winding roads up and down the hills and you actually almost always have a great view of the sea and the beaches. On this route from Kamala to Patong is also the cafe Phuket View Point, which I reported a few days ago.

Also something special or rather confusing on this route are the elephants that simply stand on the roadside. In the first moment you still think that this can never be real elephants but yet. The elephants are real and stand only a few meters from the road in a small slope. One hardly trusts his eyes, because there one expects finally no elephants. I suspect they belong to the elephant trekking, which is announced a few meters away by signs. Well, be that as it may. Here you can take a quick look at the majestic creatures as you drive by. Whether the keeping of the animals is species-appropriate is another question.

Once arrived in Patong it goes through the small town until it goes back along the coast over winding roads with great views to Karon. Karon is in contrast to Patong and Kamala rather a quiet place Phuket but exactly that makes Karon also somehow special. Of course, it is currently even quieter than “normally” but I am also of the opinion that this is at least for nature a great advantage of the pandemic.

Karon Beach — a true dream beach!

Already while driving along the beach, you realize how incredibly beautiful it is here. Turquoise blue water, light sand and a quiet, long stretch of beach. We didn’t miss the opportunity to make a short stop here. Not only because of the beautiful dream beach but also because we wanted to cool off a bit from the blazing sun. Actually, it is only 40 minutes from Kamala to Yanui Beach but in reality it takes a little longer and you are grateful to get off the scooter and drink something.

At a small store on the roadside we treated ourselves to a fresh coconut and then went down to the beach. Unfortunately we didn’t have any bathing suits with us, because we only wanted to have a look at the viewpoint and the beaches. But we will definitely come here again with bikini, swimsuit and towels — the beach is simply paradise! So we didn’t miss it either and jumped at least with our feet up to our pants into the crystal clear, turquoise shining water. It is hard to describe how beautiful it is here. The best way to convince yourself of the Karon Beach and its beauty is with your own places.

There are also sections where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for a few hours or even the whole day. This is of course very convenient but I, or rather we prefer the empty and natural beach. Especially when it comes to photos it is much better if there are no colorful sunbeds and umbrellas in the background. In addition, you can also lie everywhere simply with your own towel in the sun or also the protective shade of the palm trees and also place a hammock there. Here everyone will find the right place for himself.

It is really dreamlike at Karon Beach. The water is just perfect and so incredibly clear. Even if you go deep in, you can still see the sandy bottom. The waves are also very shallow here, making Karon Beach the perfect place for a day at the beach. Here you can swim in peace, sunbathe and simply contemplate the unique beauty of the sea. Besides, there are small snacks, drinks and also restaurants everywhere in case you get hungry. Yes, here it is almost perfect!

The Karon Viewpoint

For us, however, it went on after about half an hour. After all, we still had a few destinations to reach. One of these destinations is the Karon Viewpoint. From Karon Beach it is another 5–10 minutes drive with the scooter until you reach the viewpoint. And don’t worry, you can’t miss it. In a long curve it is located on the right side and also during Corona there are some scooters and also cars. Unlike the small viewpoints along the coast, the Karon Viewpoint is a big place with walls and also a small building where you can walk around and enjoy the view.

At the parking lot itself there is a small stand with two hawks. You are asked if you would like to take a photo with the falcons and Karon Beach in the background. Of course only against payment. Marc said that exactly this stand was also here two years ago. So this has held up in spite of Corona. But we did not want a picture with the falcons and just looked at the viewpoint and made a few photos and videos.

But you can’t do much more here. As beautiful as the view here is, in the end it’s just a viewpoint. Of course, you can also just look at the sea, the bays and everything for hours but by the many visitors it is unfortunately not so relaxed here. I must honestly say, I had expected a little less crowds. But it is also good that again a little more tourists are on the road in Thailand. That does the country at least financially very good.

The Yanui Beach & Viewpoint

After a few minutes we got back on the scooter and drove further along the coast to Yanui Beach. Marc told us that Yanui Beach is a lonely bay and there are almost no people there. So it’s a pristine little beach. Opposite Yanui Beach is also a small Thai restaurant where we want to go. There Marc was two years ago with his friends eat and was probably very enthusiastic.

Arriving at Yanui Beach we were very surprised. Between the trees had formed a parking lot and there are incredibly many scooters and also cars. The small restaurant on the other side of the road has opened and so we first parked the scooter and then went to eat something. Two Coke Zero, a Fried Rice with vegetables, Morning Glory with normal rice and a Chicken Cashew. Our standard order to share. The food was also really delicious and the restaurant itself is very jungle themed. I love it! :-D

We stayed here a little longer, of course also took photos and then finally but also made our way back to Kamala. Marc had meanwhile also got some sunburn on the arms and knees. Normally I always have a small moisturizer in my handbag but as it is, when you need the cream you don’t have it. So we waited until the sun was a little lower and then we left.

At a stop in a 7/11 we then quickly bought an after-sun cream and something to drink and I quickly creamed Marc’s arms, legs and knees in front of the store. The way back is just as beautiful as the way there. Along the coast, through the small towns, then again along the coast and again into a small town. It’s just a very great route with nice spots to stop. We made another quick stop in Patong, creamed up again, and finally headed back home.

It was an incredibly beautiful trip and we saw many, very very beautiful and breathtaking places. But you should not forget the sunscreen! Especially if you are a bit more sensitive there. But I think that Karon Beach and the Viewpoint of Yanui Beach are among the most beautiful places and places in Phuket!
